Award Winners

The candidates for our 2024 awards were exceptionally strong and we thank all the candidates for their outstanding contributions to plasma science.  We congratulate the following winners:

  • Arati Dasgupta (NRL) will receive the PSAC Award for 2024. Dr. Dasgupta is recognized for her fundamental contributions to, and leadership of, high energy density plasma, atomic, and radiation physics, including spectroscopy, x-ray generation, fusion applications, and service to the plasma science community.
  • Rishabh Datta (MIT) will receive the Igor Alexeff Outstanding Student in Plasma Science Award.  Mr. Datta is the lead graduate student for the Magnetic Reconnection on Z (MARZ) collaboration on the Z pulsed-power machine, where he has combined ground-breaking simulations with experiments to study strongly-cooled radiative reconnection.

The 2023 IEEE Transactions in Plasma Science best paper was awarded to David Chernin, John J. Petillo, Serguei Ovtchinnikov, Y. Y. Lau, Abhijit Jassem, Dongzheng Chen, Ryan Jacobs, Dane Morgan, and John Booske for their paper “Effect of Nonuniform Emission on Miram Curves.”  In addition, TPS has begun publishing video abstracts and interviews on Facebook (www.facebook.com/ieeepsac/) with links to YouTube.  Upcoming Special Issues include “Selected Papers from APSPT-12 2021”, the “50th Anniversary Issue of IEEE”, “Spacecraft Charging Technology”, and “Selected Papers from EAPPC/BEAMS 2022”.

Upcoming Conferences

We look forward to seeing everyone at the combined 51st IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science and 4th Asia-Pacific Conference on Plasma and Terahertz Science (ICOPS2024 and APCOPTS 2024) June 16-20, 2024 in Beijing, China.  The conference chair Tao Shao (Inst. Of Electrical Engineering, CAS) and technical chairs and treasurers Ken Hara (Stanford), Chao Chang (Xi-an Jiaotong Univ.), Chunqi Jiang (ODU), and Cheng Zhang (Inst. Of Electrical Engineering, CAS) are organizing an exciting scientific program with eight technical areas.  A minicourse is being offered in “Plasma science and technology: Basic fundamentals and modern applications”.  For details, please visit the conference website www.icops2024.com.

Save the date. Preparations are underway for PPPS 2025, the combined ICOPS2025 and PPC2025 conferences to be held in Berlin, Germany from June 15-20, 2025.
