Secretary’s Report

The March newsletter this year falls between regularly scheduled NPSS Administrative Committee (AdCom) general meetings. Our most recent meeting was held in November 2025, early enough to allow reporting in the December 2025 newsletter. While it is always preferable to share general meeting information with the membership as promptly as possible, the start of a new year provides a good opportunity to introduce the new members of AdCom.
The 2025 NPSS elections were rescheduled to later dates than usual, with the voting period concluding in mid-November. Delays occurred during the vetting process due to late submission of required materials from some technical committees and candidates. As an all-volunteer society, NPSS depends on the dedicated efforts of its members, and we remain grateful for everyone’s contributions. We also rely on IEEE resources to manage our elections, making close coordination essential. Thank you to all who accepted nominations, and congratulations to those beginning new roles within NPSS in 2026.
The AdCom elected class of 2029 (each serving a four-year term beginning in 2026) includes three new members. Dr. Audrey Corbeil-Therrien represents the Computer Applications in Nuclear and Plasma Sciences (CANPS) Technical Committee and is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Université de Sherbrooke in Québec. Dr. Randy Curry, representing Pulsed Power Science and Technology (PPST), is Vice President for Technology Development at I-Pulse Systems in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The third new member, Dr. Yoshinobu Unno, represents Radiation Instrumentation (RITC) and is a research scientist at KEK in Tsukuba, Japan.
Three new technical committee chairs are also joining AdCom in 2026. Dr. Eva Belonohy of the UKAEA-EuroFusion Consortium will serve as Chair of the Fusion Technology (FTC) Technical Committee. Mitra Safavi-Naeini begins her term as Chair of the Nuclear Medical and Imaging Sciences (NMISC) Technical Committee; she is the Acting Leader of the Centre for Accelerator Science at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO). Dr. Jacob Stephens, Associate Professor at the Center for Pulsed Power and Power Electronics at Texas Tech University, will assume the role of Chair of the PPST Technical Committee. In addition, Dr. Andrea Gonzalez-Montoro, a Tenured Scientist with the Spanish Research Council (CSIC) at the Institute of Instrumentation for Molecular Imaging (I3M) in Valencia, Spain, will serve as Chair of the NPSS Young Professionals Functional Committee.
We look forward to a productive and successful 2026. AdCom will hold its first meeting of the year in early March, coinciding with the publication of this newsletter. Both a planning retreat and the general meeting will take place in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I will report on these activities in my next update in the June newsletter.
