President’s Report

Dear IEEE NPSS Members,
As we begin 2026, I am honored to enter my second year as your President and continue our shared mission of advancing the nuclear and plasma sciences. The NPSS enjoys a distinguished tradition of excellence, and I am eager to build upon the momentum that we generated throughout 2025.
I would like to extend a special welcome to the new members of our NPSS Administrative Committee (AdCom) appointed for 2026. We welcome Andrea Gonzalez-Montoro as incoming Young Professionals Chair. New technical committee chairs include Eva Belonohy for Fusion Technology (FTC), Mitra Safavi-Naeini for Nuclear Medical and Imaging Sciences (NMISC), and Jacob Stephens for Pulsed Power Science and Technology (PPST). New elected AdCom members include Audrey Corbeil-Therrien, Randy Curry, and Yoshinobu Unno. Election and appointment to our AdCom is a significant professional milestone, and I am eager to work with all of you.
Throughout this year, we continue to work on the three priority areas that we established at our March 2025 retreat. Advancing small modular reactor (SMR) and other new reactors, led by Cinzia Da Via, further engaging students and young professionals, headed by Vesna Sossi, and improving the effectiveness of our projects, led by Giulia Hull.
We are thrilled to announce the 2026 Nuclear & Plasma Sciences Society (NPSS) Nuclear Engineering Summer School (NESS), a fully virtual school open to everyone. This year’s program, which begins on June 1 and runs through July 16, 2026, has a wide range of topics from modeling of radiation to medical applications and fusion. Spread the word to students, young professionals, and research staff about this exciting opportunity.
Finally, I encourage you to stay involved by attending our conferences, submitting articles to our journals, volunteering for technical activities, and connecting with us via our website and social media. Together, we will continue to innovate and make a positive impact on society.
With gratitude for your ongoing support and enthusiasm,
Sara Pozzi, NPSS President, can be reached at [email protected].
