President’s Report

Sara Pozzi,
President, IEEE NPSS

Dear IEEE NPSS Members,

It is a privilege to lead this remarkable community of innovators in the nuclear and plasma sciences! Together, we are dedicated to advancing these critical fields to address some of the most pressing challenges of our time, from health to nuclear security to energy and beyond.

At our March 2025 AdCom meeting and retreat, I shared my presidential priorities:

  1. Increase the Reach and Impact of Our Society: We aim to expand our influence and showcase the outstanding contributions of our NPSS members. This work will involve enhancing our conferences, journals, educational activities, and other initiatives to further solidify NPSS’s reputation for technical excellence and innovation.
  2. Further Engage Students and Young Professionals: By offering the next generation of leaders in nuclear and plasma sciences meaningful opportunities for learning and growth within our society, we can nurture their potential. A critical component of this effort is supporting new student chapters, which foster new communities and leadership development. I am thrilled to announce that we recently welcomed a new student chapter at the Universidad de Costa Rica, a milestone that underscores our commitment to advancing the academic and professional journeys of students globally.
  3. Strengthen Relationships with IEEE, TAB, and Other Societies: Our society thrives on collaboration, and forging stronger ties with IEEE’s Technical Activities Board (TAB) and other societies is vital. These connections will help drive multidisciplinary initiatives and enhance the global impact of our work.

I encourage all members, regardless of career stage, to actively participate in NPSS activities. Whether reviewing papers, organizing conferences, or supporting our diverse range of initiatives, your engagement is invaluable. It enriches our society and provides you with a community to expand your professional network and advance your career.

For those considering joining NPSS, there has never been a better time. Our society offers a wealth of programs tailored for students, young professionals, and women in engineering, all promoting professional growth and leadership. As a member, you will also be eligible for recognition through our awards and by progressing to Senior Member and Fellow status.

To stay informed about our latest activities and initiatives, please visit our website and follow our social media channels. Engaging with fellow NPSS members often starts as professional collaboration and evolves into lifelong friendships.

Thank you for your support and dedication to the NPSS. Together, we will continue to advance nuclear and plasma sciences, driving innovation and making a positive impact on society.

Warm regards,

Sara Pozzi, Ph. D.
