Particle Accelerator Science and Technology (PAST) Update

Paolo Craievich, PAST Chair

A key focus over the past year has been enhancing communication and engagement within the PAST community. Several ideas have been discussed, including the creation of a Collabratec community and/or a dedicated mailing list, to keep members and affiliates informed about current initiatives, upcoming events, and new opportunities. This new tool is also expected to attract new members to the technical committee, with particular emphasis on engaging scientists and engineers in the early stages of their careers.

Looking ahead, new members of the PAST Executive Committee will be elected next year. Nominations and self-nominations will open soon and should include brief supporting remarks and contact information for each proposed candidate. Members interested in contributing to the committee’s activities are warmly encouraged to participate. For additional information, please contact the PAST Chair at the email address below.

This year also marked a major event for the accelerator community — the North American Particle Accelerator Conference (NAPAC), held in August in Sacramento, California. Organized every three years, NAPAC brings together hundreds of experts to share advances in accelerator science and technology. The conference features a comprehensive program of talks, poster sessions, and mini-courses, offering an exceptional opportunity for students, postdoctoral researchers, engineers, and technicians to expand their knowledge, receive feedback, and network with peers and industry partners. Revised PAST Constitution and Bylaws available for review

Over the past year, the PAST Executive Committee has been finalizing revisions to the Technical Committee’s Constitution and Bylaws. This important update aims to align the committee’s structure and governance with its current scope, needs, and activities. The revised version is now available for review at here.

According to NPSS and PAST procedures, the revised Constitution and Bylaws will automatically take effect 30 days after the publication date of this newsletter, unless 20 or more PAST members submit a written objection to the NPSS President within that period.

PAST members are encouraged to review the document and share any comments or feedback before the deadline.
