2025 IEEE NSS/MIC/RTSD
Nuclear Science Symposium, Medical Imaging Conference (NSS/MIC) and Room-Temperature Semiconductor Detectors Conference (RTSD)

The 2025 NSS/MIC/RTSD will be held for the first time in Japan, from November 1 – 8 in Yokohama, the country’s first international port city. The venue is Pacifico Yokohama North, a modern facility built in 2021 adjacent to the main Pacifico Yokohama convention center. Pacifico Yokohama North is a compact yet fully equipped venue that accommodates the entire conference and is conveniently located near many local hotels. Yokohama is a sophisticated, safe, and beautiful city, offering a variety of small restaurants serving authentic Japanese cuisine. The city is also home to one of the largest Chinatowns in Japan, where you can enjoy unique Japanese-influenced Chinese dishes.

Conference abstracts will be published in IEEE Xplore as the official conference record, ensuring timely and broad dissemination.
This year, we received over 1,400 abstracts — a significant increase, particularly from contributors in Asian countries. Our Program Chairs have nearly completed the scientific programs: Craig Woody and Akira Yoshikawa for NSS, Taiga Yamaya and Jae Sung Lee for MIC, Tadayuki Takahashi and Ralph James for RTSD, Shunsuke Kurosawa for the joint session, and Akram Hamato for the workshop. All submissions have been carefully reviewed and organized into a well-rounded and compelling scientific program.

In addition to the main scientific program, we offer a variety of valuable learning and networking opportunities.
Our short courses will cover both foundational topics and advanced areas of interest, including low-noise analog design, artificial intelligence and machine learning, PET kinetic modeling and parametric imaging, dosimetry, and more. Details can be found on the program page of our website.
We also host a range of IEEE-sponsored events such as Women in Engineering (WIE), Young Professionals (YP), an NSS/RISC-MIC/NMISC Forum for Next-Generation Professionals, and an NPSS-sponsored workshop on Opportunities for Nuclear and Plasma Sciences For Energy and Society. In addition, there will be with several other engaging workshops focused on emerging technologies and local research facilities. Please visit the events page for the latest updates.
The conference will feature a number of social events as well:
- NSS Dinner: Monday, November 3 at Sojiji, a large and historic temple, including a unique Shoukou (prayer) experience. Transportation will be provided from the venue (JR Tsurumi Station is also nearby).
- RTSD Luncheon Cruise: Aboard the Marine Rouge, offering scenic views of Yokohama Bay.
- MIC Dinner: A formal event hosted at the InterContinental Yokohama Hotel.

We encourage all attendees to take advantage of these enriching experiences to learn, connect, and enjoy the culture of Yokohama.
I’m especially proud to share that, thanks to generous donations, renewed grants, and sponsorships, we are able to offer 125 student grants this year. For many students, this support can be the deciding factor in attending the conference.
If you are a potential sponsor reading this, there’s still time to make a meaningful impact on the career of a young professional. To learn more about student sponsorship opportunities, please contact Lorenzo Fabris ([email protected]).
We have also received a strong number of applications for the Valentin T. Jordanov Radiation Instrumentation Travel Grant. Our expert committee is currently reviewing them — stay tuned for updates!
The exhibition is a vital part of the conference, offering attendees a chance to explore cutting-edge technologies. This year, you’ll have even more opportunities to engage with innovations from Japanese and other Asian industries, alongside our long-standing exhibitors.
Join us for the Exhibitor Reception on Tuesday evening, a relaxed setting to connect with exhibitors and fellow participants. The main exhibition runs Tuesday through Thursday, showcasing a wide range of products and solutions. We encourage you to visit the exhibition hall — you may discover exciting opportunities for technical advancement and collaboration.
We would like to take this moment to express our heartfelt thanks to the entire organizing committee for their dedication and hard work in bringing this event to life. You can find a full list of our volunteers at https://nssmic.ieee.org/2025/contact/. If you see them during the conference, please take a moment to thank them for their invaluable contributions.
As this is the first NSS/MIC/RTSD to be held in Japan, we hope it offers a fresh and memorable experience for all participants. We look forward to welcoming you to Yokohama in November 2025, and sharing this special chapter of the symposium with you.
