2024 IEEE NSS/MIC/RTSD
Nuclear Science Symposium, Medical Imaging Conference (NSS/MIC) and Room-Temperature Semiconductor Detectors Conference (RTSD)

The 2024 NSS/MIC/RTSD will be held in Tampa, Florida from October 26th to November 4th, 2024. While our conference has been to Florida many times before, this is the first time we will be hosted by the city of Tampa. We are very excited at the prospect of holding our conference at the Tampa Convention Center (www.tampa.gov/tcc), a beautiful venue located in the heart of the city, right on the waterfront, with over 600,000 square feet of event space and easy access to hotels, restaurants, and all amenities.

The technical programs are well under way, led by our Technical Chairs, Sara Pozzi and Stefan Ritt for NSS, Georges El Fakhri and Kira Grogg for MIC, and Ralph James and Michael Fiederle for RTSD. The many submissions are being reviewed, sorted out, and included to form a high-quality technical program. As it was done in 2023, conference abstracts will be published in Xplore as the conference record. This will promptly provide a conference record that will avoid any conflict with more extensive manuscripts that the authors may want to publish later in peer-reviewed journals. For information about the conference record, feel free to contact our Conference Editor, Youngho Seo at the following E-mail address: [email protected].

In addition to the high-quality technical content, our conference has become known also for the learning opportunities offered. Our short courses will span modern topics of interest such as low noise analog design, artificial intelligence and machine learning, PET kinetic modeling and parametric imaging, dosimetry and more. Of course, our advanced course in radiation detection will be there as usual. Short courses are found in our “Program” page on our website (https://nssmic.ieee.org/2024/program/).
Our rich program offers a number of IEEE events as well, from Women in Engineering (WIE) to Young Professionals (YP), and many others. There are very interesting workshops as well. The workshops will focus on new and emerging technologies as well as on society-level topics. Make sure you check out the “Events” page for up-to-date information. Other events include the General Chair’s reception and the NSS, MIC, and RTSD-specific social events. The NSS dinner is planned to take place on Monday, October 28th at the Florida Aquarium, a beautiful venue reachable via the picturesque TECO streetcar right from the Conference Center (http://www.tecolinestreetcar.org/) or a leisurely 20 minute walk. The traditional RTSD luncheon will leave you in awe when cruising the Bay on board the luxurious Star Ship II. Similarly, the MIC dinner will also be in a dinner cruise format!
Thanks to sponsorship, generous donations, and renewed grants, we are able to offer support to our attendees by means of travel grants. We hope all those who qualify will or have applied for one of our grants (Conference Trainee, Valentin T. Jordanov Radiation Instrumentation Travel Grant, Paul Phelps Continuing Education Grant) during the submission process. While we cannot guarantee that everyone will get such support, we are always striving to make sure that the support available stretches as far as it is reasonably possible. We are also going to recognize distinguished people in our field with a number of awards, made possible by sponsorships and our Society. Please E-mail yours truly ([email protected]) or Merry Keyser ([email protected]) for grants and awards information.
Our numerous exhibitors are delighted to invite you for some fun and relaxed networking on Tuesday evening during their Happy Hour. This event is part of our large exhibitors’ program that, as it is common, starts on Tuesday and runs through Thursday. Make sure you visit our exhibitors often and attend their technical presentations on Wednesday to see the latest commercial innovations in our field.
I would like to take advantage of this opportunity to thank our organizing committee for the hard work they have done in making this a memorable event. A full list of our volunteers can be found at https://nssmic.ieee.org/2024/contact/. If you happen to see them around, please take the time to thank them for their incredible efforts!
We are very excited to see you in Tampa next fall. We are confident that we are preparing a very high-quality event that we can all enjoy together in a wonderful setting.
